ll Adult humans suck, and dogs like them suck too ll

The calm sound of water rushing up onto cool, soft sand was almost to unbearable for someone who just loved to come here and rest. It was a beautiful beach, unlike most beaches here was just pure sand and water. No dried up seaweed washed up on shore creating a blockade for those who wanted to reach the waves and swim around without having to get the feeling of dead dry weeds under you paws. It wasn't Hawaii, but it was the best thing next to it. The sky was all light blue with not even a wisp of clouds, although far off into the horizon was a large black block, ready to drift over to the beach and rain on everyone's parade. But it seemed to far off, but the lighting it gave off was bright, catching everyone's eyes whenever it decided to flash. Yet no one gave a care about it, if it wasn't above them, it wasn't important.

Few humans passed the beach, not even caring to look at the clear crystal blue waters. It was beautiful, yet of course those stupid humans never seemed to have the time for fun, except for those littler ones that always dragged their large humans around, forcing to go somewhere with a annoying cry of frustration. The little demons were obnoxious as heck. As humans passed, not looking at the water, a medium-smallish sized dog padded around in the wet sand, letting the tide slip around her paws as it went back in forth so soothly. Something as pretty as this always caught her eye, and she always went to it.

The bright sun shone down on her mixed-color pelt. White was her base, well, a creamy white. A red blanket lay across her back, it was the markings of a husky. Red and white. A leather collar, colors of red and green and all in between made into patterns, wrapped around her soft neck, a jingle here and there sounded off as a golden tag marked with the street address of her previous human home hit the silver loop it was attached to. She pranced around, lifting her legs high into the air as she briskly trotted up and down the beach. Her light amber eyes were lit with life, having this much fun wasn't a new thing to her. She always seemed to find something fun to mess with. And the beach was one thing.

Two small humans yelled with excitement as they noticed the Husky running around in the water. The littler of the two screamed as the adult human yelled at it. The female stopped as she caught the scream and looked over to the humans walking by up the hill on the sidewalk. She gave them a happy yip, wagging her fluffy tail back and forth excitedly. Large humans wasn't appealing to her, but littler humans got her going. They were so fun to run around with. Running around a green backyard with little humans chasing you was heaven. Then when you finally were to slow down for their sake they'd grab onto you and hug the heck outta you, it was pure joy.

As the humans began to pass by both of the littler ones got away from the adults. They ran down the hill, falling into the light brown sand from the speed they couldn't handle to well. The Husky jumped up once, her front paws coming off the sand as she waited for the humans to reach her. Both the kids latched onto her, grabbing her back and neck. She barked again, throwing her head down and backing up to try and get away. It was fun. The kids yelled and laughed, staying attached to her as she tried to jump up and down. The adults yelled at the children from the sidewalk, one man then quickly came down the hill for the children. The dog finally got away, unaware of the adult standing right behind her. She barked, lowering her chest to the ground, asking for a game of chase. Just then a heavy smack across the rear sent her flying to the side, making her fall to the sand. The adult glared at her, making her feel guilty for something she didn't do. It grabbed the two littler ones and dragged them back up to the sidewalk where another adult waited for the three. Maya sat up, shaking the sand from her belt. The two little humans screamed, reaching for her as they disappeared behind a wall up ahead. She didn't dare run for them, she knew better. Large humans just didn't get it.

The femme yawned, sitting back. She turned her head toward the water, looking over to the black clouds. They seemed smaller now, but the lightning was still bright. Oh well, at least it was going away. The damn thing was making everything seem less beautiful.

ll If only one like her were to show ll

The sand slipped around Joel's furry feet every time he stepped down. It got in his fur and squished between his toes. No matter how annoying this was to him, he kept going for the beach was beautiful. Sand seemed endless here. Like nothing else was allowed but the sand and water. Then there was the humans. Some carrying little miniatures of them, or some walking pampered house pets. The ones he hated the most where the little tiny ones dressed up in boots and bows. How pathetic, let some human run all over you.

Snapping out of his sneering thoughts, Joel sat on his haunches and lifted his front paw. A small rock was lodged between his pads. He gnawed his paw lightly and then shook it a bit. The tiny rock fell from it's place and landed softly in the sand. He stood up again and continued on his way. He looked up at the sky, wondering what lie beyond the endless clouds. It had always intrigued him when he thought about the heavens. He heard a ear splitting cry come from one of the miniature humans and shied instinctively even though he was a good seven yards away. He stared at the human and the miniature for a moment longer and continued.

His life was lonely at the particular moment. He traveled alone, not staying in one place for to long. Always moving, that was his life. Ever since his escape from humans, he came and went as he pleased. Once again he drifted into his own reality and had to pull himself out of it. Not in time though to stop what he entered upon. He found himself to close to a human who was laying on a towel with lotion on their back. He tried to shy away but tripped over the persons leg. He tumbled in the soft sand and tried to get his legs up but the sand seemed to suck him in. He looked at the human who was staring at him now and bared his teeth, 'do not come near me or else' he said with his teeth. The human understood and scrambled to her feet. Joel got up and shook off. Now there was sand all through his fur. He hated the feeling of sand in his fur, it made him feel dirtier than he normally was. He trotted silently until another dog caught his eye.

ll Being alone has its positives, it makes others come to you ll

As those depressing clouds disappeared in the horizon, everything was alive and even more beautiful. More humans seemed to be out and about, and quite a few were coming down to the beach. They were dressed in their swimsuits, Maya knew what it was. She had been brought down to the beach many times, all the humans dressed in their 'swimsuits', carrying large floaties and goodness only knows what else. It was a ball coming to the beach. Going swimming with the little humans, floaties being thrown around your neck like that game 'horseshoes' the humans like to play. Those were good times. Great times in fact, but now, its in the past.

Maya huffed, looking down at her soaked paws. Wet sand coated them like cement, wet cement, dirt cement, heck, very annoying wet sand cement. She swept her tail to her side, curling around her back legs and almost her front. Sand covered that too. It stuck to her fur, like glue, and cement. It made everything heavy, but it wasn't a first for her, she was far from it. A good swim will wash it off. The femme sighed again, looking back to the water. Large lumps rose up and down way out in the middle, too far for a dog to swim to, let alone a human. A large, long white thing appeared from behind an island to the left of her, farther than the large lumps that never seemed to end. It was tiny, like a white worm floating its way over the ocean. It was spectacular. She had seen floaties like it, but nowhere near like this one. She just knew it couldn't be as small as it seemed. She was taught by her mother 'not to judge a object's size or anything for that matter until you can actually touch it.' That was a true fact, proven too.

Well the white speck soon got boring. It just moved, slowly, across the water. That was until smoke blew into the air right above it, and then a distant horn reached the female's ears. That made her jump. After a moment of staring at it, not leaving sight of it, the speck got boring once again. Maya blinked, turning away from the water. She slowly rose to her pads, sand falling from her hindquarters and tail as she turned around. The femme began to trot down the beach, noticing humans actually on the beach, either sun tanning or running around.

After a moment and snarl caught her ears. She quickly turned to the side to the sight of a dog sneering at a human lying on the ground. What was that for? What did that human ever do to you? The female snorted. Dogs like that don't have a life, they are stuck up and probably don't need to be on a beach. But hey, don't judge a book by its cover. As the human quickly jumped to its feet and took off the dog kept on, until it noticed her. The female stood her ground, dogs don't scare her. Not one dog. She examined the male. Brown, shaggy, that was it. Her tail began to sway as a thought came to mind.

The female quickly loped over to the dog. The whole 'slowly walk up, then stop a few feet and make sure its alright to approach' approach didn't appeal to her. I guess you could say she wasn't a dog. Most dogs said that, but she didn't have time for that stuff. She slowed a bit though as she reached the dog, stopping right in front of him, cutting off his path. She grinned politely, wagging her tail as her bright eyes examined him more. After a quick moment her smile went away and her tail stopped wagging, that was her hello.

Well what did that human do to you? I hate them too, but heck, he didn't even hit you!

She barked, looking at him sternly. He had no reason to do such things, that kind of stunts is why do many humans hate strays. Strays are suppose to not look at the human and just turn the opposite way, unless there's a little human, then try and stick around. Anyways, she still looked at him, staring, waiting for a reply. She acted like she knew him, yet she never even knew he existed. Oh well, she didn't care. She never does.

ll I deserve an answer, and hey, another dog! ll

The breeze blew silently through the beach, the cool air feeling good rather than cold. Joel stopped mid stride to look at the dog whom approached him. He looked at her fluffy fur and inquisitive eyes but was startled by her approach. She did not approach in a cautious way any new dog would approach another dog. She walked up to him like she'd known him for years. He was confused at her such sudden approach that her words surprised him more.

He watched her as she spoke and flicked his tail once, trying to remove sand. When she was finished he thought about it. Why had he snarled? Old habit.

"Old habits die hard" He said in an emotionless tone. He was never known to be to been fond of humans. The breeze ended and the air was still again. He could feel the sand under his fur and it annoyed him. It made him feel so grubby. Although, the way his fur fell limp at his body and tended to get frizzed, he probably wasn't much of a sight. He shook once and he could feel sand fall out of his fur but it was no help. It felt like millions of little fleas biting at him... he hated it. He shook his head, expelling sand that fell into his ears. The shake proceeded through his body and ended at his tail. Still no use. He gave up on the sand and turned his attention back to the dog whom spoke her mind.

He waited to see her reaction for he had not known what kind of dog she was and what her reaction would be. He let his eyes settle on her as he watched. Curious.

ll Ah, old Habits do Die Hard ll

The femme blinked a couple of times while the male tried to get over his shock from her just jumping right in front of him. Cautiousness was stupid, unless the dog seemed to look like a demon sent from goodness knew where to hunt her down, for something she might have down but didn't know what. As he gathered himself up and began to speak she grew curious, as always. It was her nature to be curious about others and to ask questions, no matter how blond it may make her look like. It was a way to get information about life and others' lives that you would never even think could happen to a dog. Asking questions could also make you seem smarter, in a uncertain sort of way that only the one answering the question could figure out. She was surprised as well she didn't speed up in her words, speaking so fast you could never hear the pauses between words as they came out. The female was quite known to be somewhat of a spazz at times. But yet she spoke slow. Awkward.

As the male spoke she listened intently to his short reply. She quickly nodded, closing her eyes as if she was taking in his blank lyrics. They were short. Good. She didn't understand how one tiny question results in a days-long reply. It was crazy, and she never got it. Anyways, after his reply she smiled agreeingly.

True that. Thank goodness you just didn't do that to be a jerk, or I would've slapped you upside the head.

She laughed, wagging her fluffy red and white tail. She loved to joke and play around. It made life fun and give hope to people that tomorrow could be fun, if you know how to be sarcastic. The femme glanced away toward the ocean, searching for the white speck that seemed to have disappeared over the bright blue horizon. Not spotting it she looked back up at him, giving him a welcoming smile.

Hey I'm Maya. Welcome to the beach.

She chuckled, noticing how annoyed he was with the sand. She never had seen him around here, so she considered him to be new. She watched, quite amusingly, as he tried to rid the sand from his long ears, that didn't work. Of course Maya too was covered in dry sand, making her snow white pelt with a red blanket over her head and back look like it had yellow highlights all over it. She was used to the 'cement' and it didn't bother her much. She grinned, watching.

ll Yeah I know, sand can get really annoying... trust me ll

The wind stopped blowing and the air was heavy again. He chuckled at her response to his. After a few good seconds he came to relax. She meant no harm, not that her thought she had. Her approach was much more in person than he had ever been approached before. He took her in, looking at her for a minute. Her pelt was dusted with sand as well as his.
"Hi, I am Joel"
He said in a casual tone. The sand was in fact annoying especially with so much fur for it to be stuck in. He watched her as she chuckled at his failed attempts to rid the sand. He gave up finally and looked at her. She was grinning at him, obviously amused at his performance. He gave one last shake of his head, in which sand came off. It blew around before falling and it caused him to sneeze. He wrinkled his nose trying to prevent the sneeze but he still sneezed. All the more reason he was careful not to get sand in his fur at the beach. Her coat was also dusted in sand but yet it did not bother her. It puzzled him, how one could not be annoyed with sand stuck in your fur practically biting at your skin. That's how he put it at least. But you know, it could just be him.

ll Joel, what a nice brute, unlike most others ll

She stopped grinning as she noticed him looking at her, puzzled. His expression seemed to ask, 'Why isn't this dog annoyed with the sand too?'. It did annoy her, just a bit though. She was so used to the beach and it's salty solid yellow contents, it never bothered her when it stuck to her pelt. It made her look like a mutt that didn't know one thing about personal hygiene and looks, but if you actually knew about the beach, it would never cross your mind once. A dog, or human, who knew the beach and how to deal with it's annoying dirt always knew how to get rid of sand stuck to themselves. A good soak in the water would make that sand come off in no time. It would make you look like a giant wet rat, but that's nothing compared to being a yellow brick stuck in the sand, not able to even move. And it was fun to swim. If you had a surfing human, it's twice as exiting to go surfing on that large board, sitting or standing, either one, riding those giant waves. The wind in your face, the sound of water right behind you, going through the tunnels of falling water all around you, the only exit a bright blue light ahead of you. It was pure joy, but not having a human like that, it will never work. Dogs can't surf like that alone. Where would they get a board?

Maya had to crack a humorous smile as Joel sneezed from the sand he managed to get rid of. Watching dogs try to do this was really amusing to her, she didn't know why, it just was. Maybe it was because she was pro at flinging sand off her pelt, who knew. Before he could look at her again she lost her mocking grin, now just looking at him. She paused for a moment. He didn't have much to say, but she had a butt-load of stuff she wanted to spit out. Yet, talking was boring, when you were at the beach. The femme looked back at the water, watching as the waves crashed into the sand, making the sand move around and revealing a few sea shells. Then it came to her. Ah, she was so stupid. Why didn't she think of that first? Maya quickly looked back at Joel, an exiting look in her eyes.

Do you swim? You could get all that sand off you. Let's go swimming!

She barked, acting like a pup. Her exited words came spilling out of her so quickly you couldn't figure out where one word ended and one began. She jumped up enough for her front paws to barely come off the ground, then bent down, coaxing him to follow her. She didn't wait for his reply before taking off towards the ocean, jumping over a lady lying on the ground that was sunbathing.

Maya stopped at the water, her legs halfway in the salty water as she looked back. The female could already feel the sand from her legs slipping off as the waves swished around her. She glanced back at Joel, waiting for him to come. After a moment she yipped. Her inner pup was growing bigger by the second, it appeared quite a lot for a two and a half year old. But she didn't give a rat, not one bit. Maya barked again before looking away to the water. She jumped forward, crashing into a large wave. She dove underwater, the cement that seemed as though it would never come off slipping away into the blue.

ll Oh yeah, water, water, water, I love it ll

Joel watched her confused look change over to curiosity and then excitement. He was again confused. She was much more confusing then other dogs he had met, but then again he hadn't met that many other dogs. He usually hung out with the same dogs for awhile. Her question seemed to read his mind. The water seemed to be calling him.
"Water" He said stupidly, not meaning it to come out like that. "You read my mind"
Before he had finished his sentence she was in a playful mood and began running towards the water. Her yip sounded like that one of a pup. It pulled the energy back into him as he returned the yip. She reached the water and turned back to him and looked at him. He bolted, spraying sand behind him and ran to the water. He jumped over the same human, sailing through the air. He felt his ears fly up into the air as he fell back down to earth and began running again to the water. He felt like he was a pup again, running wild towards the water. He was joyed to think about running and swimming through the water. As his feet first entered the water he felt the sand squish between his toes but it didn't stick into the pads. When he lifted his feet in the water it fell back into the water. He felt the sand from his legs disperse into the water. Finally! The sand that was pinching at his skin was leaving. He was relieved.

ll Duuun-un. Duun-un, Dun-un Dun-un Dun-un ll

She quickly came up to the surface, water flying everywhere as she took in the oxygen. The waves moved her soaked frame up and down as she turned around from the vast ocean in time to see Joel run into the water. She laughed, yipping a few short times before paddling toward him. The current was no match to the female's swift and powerful legs. It was second nature to her to swim, moving her legs in a quick pattern. She didn't have to think about it, she just swam. The top of her stayed above water, full skull and a tad bit of neck, followed by her red back. Her fluffy tail, now looking like a soaked snake, floated along the surface, tagging along behind her body. Down below her body was hard at work, yet the expression on her face couldn't say that. Her front legs kicked far out, grabbing water and pushing it to her back legs then swirled on past her. It was like running, only you wern't on ground. Kick, push, kick, push, that's all there was to it...or was it the other way around? She forgot, which was kind of weird since she was such a pro to forget how to say the leg movements. Oh well, little things like that don't matter anyways.

As she neared the male, she began to sink lower into the water. A smug grin grew across her maw as a menecing thought came to her tricky little mind. After a deep breath she dove under the water. Bubbles where all that was left on the surface. Her long pelt swayed around as she searched for Joel's legs. On in the distance were four long shadows, kicking around.. Perfect. Maya quickly edged toward him, sliding under the water like a croc, seadily and quietly, like nothing was even there. Duuuuuun-un....Duuun-un.. Dun-un. Dun-un, dun-un, dun-un. She came closer, just feet from his kicking range.

Dun-un, dun-un, DUN-DUN-DUUUNNN.

Maya snapped at his back legs, grabbing gently onto his heel. She pulled it down, trying not to burst out laughing underwater. Yet she let out a bubbly growl. After a second she let go, swirling around and hauling butt in the other direction, a evil grin across her maw. On towards the shore she reached ground. Maya stood up, the water now half-way up her side. She turned around to face Joel. A innocent look covered up the evil grin she once had before the attack. This was normal to Maya, acting like a pup. It was fun, pure fun. Being adult all the time just plain sucked. Adults don't know how to live.

The female innocently waited for him. Salt water poured off her into the waist-high water as she waited for him to do something.

Joel shook off once more before finally emerging himself into the water and paddling a few feet. His eyes caught site of Maya and he watched her intently, determined to catch her. Suddenly the breeze blew and Joel's fur rushed forward and blew in his face. He put his head down and his nose touched the water causing him to sneeze. When he recovered he looked around but Maya was gone. He looked around for a second but didn't see her. He paddled there in place for a moment and then he felt something under water.

He yipped with alarm at first but kept his feet moving and only got quick gentle nips. He dove his head under but saw nothing. He was confused by this action. When his head came back above water he breathed in and there was Maya, standing near land. The innocent look pasted on her face made Joel laugh for a moment. Then he quickly began swimming towards her. His feet barely caught ground and he kept going until nearly reaching her.

He nipped at the air around her playfully inviting her to play in the shallower water. He ran around back of her and nipped at her back leg and then jumped backwards out of the way. He waited for her to face him and start their little game of tag.
